New QLD legislation

Master Plumbers' Association of Queensland claims new legislation will put communities at risk.

In a media release, MPAQ claims the removal of the licensing requirement for the installation and maintenance of water meters will lead to the increased risk of community and worker health and safety through contamination and cross connections.

According to Association President Kelvin Slade, “it is a sad day when the government is willing to put every Queenslander at risk by allowing non qualified persons the ability to tamper with the community’s water supply”.

MPAQ says while it is a laudable objective of the Queensland Government to reduce red tape, de-regulating the work associated with this single element of the total water supply system will result in increased risks and consequences for the community, the industry and its workers.

It says the risk to the Queensland community far out weighs any assumed benefits.
