New requirements for Sydney Water

On 1 September 2014, new water requirements came into effect, meaning multi-level buildings must be designed and built to cater for metering of individual units.

The new requirements apply to relevant development applications that receive a Sydney Water Notice of Requirements (NOR).

There are three key things to remember when designing new multi-level buildings.

• Allow plumbing for a single water inlet to each unit.
• Individual meters need to be located in the common area (not inside individual units).
• There may also need to be a space and power supply for data logger(s) which remotely transmit meter reads to Sydney Water.

Click here to read the Multi-Level Individual Metering Guide for detailed specifications on what to do to prepare.
